WE CERTAINLY GOT MORE THAN WHAT WE INTENDED: CCA MALAWI SUPREME COURT

The Supreme Court of Malawi delegation has admitted that they got more than what they expected after being given a number of topics on how the Judiciary of Tanzania conducts and improves justice services to the people.

Speaking on August 22nd, 2024 in Dodoma during a closing ceremony of a four-day training session for learning and exchanging experiences which included the delegation from the Supreme Court of Malawi and their counterpart the Judiciary of Tanzania, the Chief Court Administrator (CCA) of the Supreme Court of Malawi, Mrs. Edith Chikagwa said all the presented topics were well prepared and gave a picture of more than what they expected.

"This training will remain one of the important memories for the Malawi Supreme Court, our visit was focused on looking at the issues of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and the way the Tanzania’s Judiciary operates itself in justice delivery but we got more than what we intended through the various topics presented, this shows that we certainly got more than what brought us here, " said Mrs. Chikagwa.

The Chief Court Administrator further thanked the leadership of the Judiciary of Tanzania for accepting their request to come for the study tour/benchmarking.

She added that, they will present to the leadership of the Supreme Court of Malawi what they learnt and see how best to do as the Judiciary of Tanzania did so as to improve justice delivery to the public.

"We promise to improve our services by doing all the good things we have learned through this training," explained Ms. Chikagwa.

Speaking during an official closure of the training, the Acting Chief Court Administrator of the Judiciary of Tanzania, Mr. Victor Kategere said that the conclusion of the study tour training should not be the end of cooperation between the Judiciary of Tanzania and the Supreme Court of Malawi rather it should be the beginning of continued cooperation.

Mr. Kategere reminded the delegates from the Supreme Court of Malawi that, since Judiciary interprets the law, their role in delivering justice is crucial thus in order to ensure that role done effectively it is important to hire both judicial and non-judicial employees who will join hands together to fulfill it.

He also emphasized on the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in court operations where he said, "due to the growth of technology, the Tanzania’s Judiciary is an example of an institution that conducts its activities by using ICT."

The Acting Chief Court Administrator, mentioned the various ICT Systems that the Judiciary of Tanzania uses which include the Electronic Case Management System (e-CMS), (e-Wakili), (e-Office), Transcription and Translation System (TTS), (TanzLII) and others.

The delegation from the Supreme Court of Malawi which arrived in the country on August 17, 2024 had four (4) days training session held from August 19th to 22nd, 2024 in Dodoma where they learned and shared experiences with their host, the Judiciary of Tanzania 

On the last day of the training, several topics were presented including Archives Management-Court records, storing of Court judgement and Disposal Policy, major Procurement activities in the Judiciary and Protocol, Corporate and Public Relations in the Judiciary of Tanzania.

After the completion of the training, the Judiciary of Tanzania provided certificates along with shields for appreciation to all participants from the Supreme Court of Malawi who attended the training session for learning exchanging experiences of how Judiciaries of the two countries work.

Similarly, the Supreme Court of Malawi gave gifts to their host, the Judiciary of Tanzania.
