EAST AFRICAN MAGISTRATES’ AND JUDGES’ ASSOCIATION INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE TAKES OFF

The 21st East African Magistrates’ and Judges’ Association Conference and Annual General Meeting being held in Arusha City, bringing together more than 300 participants from the region, took off today dated December 2, 2024.

Early in the morning, the Executive Council of the Association of Judges and Magistrates from East African countries met to discuss various practical issues, challenges and successes that have already been achieved.

The session also gave a real picture about the participation of members at the Conference and Annual General Meeting and the various things that will be done for about five days.

Various topics will be discussed during the Conference, including Enhancing Judicial Foundation: Courts as Cornerstone of Criminal Justice Chain, Civil Justice Reforms: Re-engineering the Business Process to Enhance Efficiency in Justice Delivery; Harmonization of Labour Laws and Courts Jurisprudence in East Africa to Improve Dispute Resolution; The Role of Electronic Case Management Systems in Improving Court Efficiency and Adjudicating Transnational Crimes in East African Courts: Legal Framework and Jurisdictional Challenges.

Retired Chief Justice of Tanzania, His Lordship Mohamed Chande Othman and the Chief Executive Officer of the Employers' Association, Ms. Suzanne Ndomba are among of the Legal Experts who will present some topic at the Conference, while the Distinguished Law Lecturer at the University of Dar es Salaam and School of Law, Prof. Hamudi Ismail Majamba being one of the Moderators of the Panels to discuss those topics.

Other Tanzanians who will participate in the Panels to discuss the topics are the Judge of the High Court of Zanzibar, Hon. Khadija Shamte Mzee, Judge of the High Court of Tanzania, Hon. Aisha Sinde and the Director of Case Management of Judiciary of Tanzania, Hon. Desdery Kamugisha.

The Executive Council of the Association of Judges and Magistrates of East Africa begins their session with prayers and members later singing the East Africa Anthem.
