THE Principal Judge of the High Court of
Uganda, Hon. Dr. Flavian Zeija visited the Headquarters of Judiciary of
Tanzania and the Dodoma Integrated Justice Center (ICJ) today August 17,
2023 and commended the great step that the Judiciary of Tanzania has reached,
especially in the improvements of court infrastructures.
While at the Judiciary’s Headquarters
building on the third day of his visit to the Judiciary of Tanzania, the Principal Judge said that it has been a positive tour as
they have learned a lot which is beneficial to Ugandan Judicial as well.
Immediately after arriving at the
Headquarters of the Judiciary of Tanzania, the Principal Judge was received by
the Chief Court Administrator of the Judiciary of Tanzania, Prof. Elisante Ole
Gabriel and had an opportunity to see for himself various practical activities
going on in that building.
Hon. Dr. Zeija inspected some of the
infrastructure and areas, including the Offices of judicial officers and other staff members.
While in the office of the Chief Court
Administrator, the Principal Judge received a briefing on the construction
project of the building with a value of 129 billion Tanzanian Shillings, some money
which is sourced from local revenue.
Prof. Ole Gabriel said the successful construction
of the building is a result of good cooperation that exists between the three
pillars of the State. He added that the Government has been providing funds for
the development of various Court infrastructures in order to have good
environment for delivery of justice.
After visiting the Judiciary’s Headquarters,
the Principal Judge also went at Dodoma Integrated Justice Center (IJC) and
was received by Judge in Charge of the High Court of Tanzania, Dodoma Zone,
Hon. Dr. Juliana Massabo.
While in the Court building, Hon. Dr. Zeija witnessed activities of some of the Court's stakeholders and the
designated special areas, including the Juvenile Court and the breastfeeding special
room, among others.
He was briefed various issues, including
the construction of the IJC Dodoma Building as well as other infrastructures in
that building.
The Judge in Charge told her guest that
within the IJC there are six different levels of courts from Primary Court,
the District Court, the Juvenile Court, the Resident Magistrate's Court, the
High Court and the sub-registry of the Court of Appeal of Tanzania.
She said that the IJC has, apart from the
offices of Judges and Magistrates, offices of various
stakeholders including the Attorney General's Office, the National Prosecution
Office, the Tanganyika Law Society, the Social Welfare Office, among others.
Speaking after his brief visit, Hon. Dr.
Zeija expressed his satisfaction with the functions being conducted and said
that it is a good example to follow.
"I am certainly impressed by the beauty
of the infrastructure of this building, the way it has been built and arranged,
indeed this is a very good thing. I have learned a lot through this
visit," said the Principal Judge.
