JUDGE PRESIDENT ZIMBABWE HIGH COURT CONCLUDES HER BENCHMAKING VISIT TO TANZANIA JUDICIARY

Judge President of the High Court of Zimbabwe, Hon. Mary Dube today dated November 30, 2023 concluded her three-day official benchmarking visit to the Judiciary of Tanzania and has left the country.

She was escorted to the Julius Nyerere International Airport and seen off by Acting Registrar of the High Court of Tanzania, Hon. Projestus Kahyoza and other judicial officers at around 03.00 am.

Other judicial officers who witnessed the departure of Zimbabwe delegation were Court Administrator Philibert Matotay, Resident Magistrate, Hon. Mary Kallomo and Protocol Officer Swalehe Mwindady.

Hon. Dube arrived in the country on Sunday dated November 26, 2023 and was received by Judge in Charge of the High Court of Tanzania, Dar es Salaam Zone, Hon. Salma Maghimbi and other officials of the Judiciary of Tanzania.

 

Other judicial officers, who were there to meet the leader from Zimbabwe Judiciary were Acting Registrar of the High Court of Tanzania, Hon. Projestus Kahyoza, Deputy Registrar of the High Court of Tanzania, Main Registry, Hon. Benazetha Maziku and Court Administrator Philibert Matotay.

 

The Judge President was accompanied by other officers, including the Secretary of Judicial Service Commission, Mr. Walter Chikwana, the Registrar of the High Court of Zimbabwe, Hon. Kudzai Maronga, the Head of Finance of Judicial Service Commission, Mr. Milton Shadaya and Head of Information Technology (IT) of the Judicial Service Commission, Mr. Obey Mayenga.

 

On the first day of her visit, Hon. Dube met her host, the Principal Judge of the High Court of Tanzania, Hon. Mustapher Mohamed Siyani in his office at the High Court building in Dar es Salaam and have with him tete-a-tete on various judicial issues.

 

After such talks, the Zimbabwean Court delegation visited the Network Operating Center within the same building before departing to the Integrated Justice Center for Family Matters Temeke for other judicial engagements.

 

While at the Centre, Hon. Dube and her delegation witnessed the huge building accommodating courts designed to handle family related cases and they were impressed on how it operated.

 

The delegation was also informed of developments made, share experiences in managing judiciary reform in Tanzania and get insights on the journey traveled by the Judiciary of Tanzania in the digitization of courts.

 

On the second day, the Zimbabwe Judicial Leader also went at the Temeke Integrated Center in the morning and get insights on the implementation of real-time translation and transcription in courts and insights on internet connectivity to all court levels.

 

Later in the afternoon, Hon Dube paid a courtesy call to the Chief Justice of Tanzania, Hon. Prof. Ibrahim Hamis Juma in his office in the Court of Appeal building and had discussion with him on various collaboration issues on judicial matters.

 

The third day of the visit took the Judge President of the High Court of Zimbabwe and her delegation to the Mediation Centre of the High Court of Tanzania and she was impressed on how it operates.

 

Hon. Dube is not the first judicial leader from different countries in the world to visit the Judiciary of Tanzania. Other leaders who had their visits in recent years are the Chief Justice of Uganda, Hon. Alfonse Chigamoy Owiny-Dollo who arrived in the country on May 24, 2022 for a three-day visit.

 

Others are the Principal Judge of the High Court of Uganda, Hon. Dr. Flavian Zeija who arrived in the country on August 15, 2023 for a five-day visit and the Deputy Chief Justice and Vice President of the Supreme Court of the People's Republic of China, Hon. Yang Linping who arrived in the country on November 1, 2023.
